The Star Cont’d

Before I begin, **in Chanyeol voice** let me tell you a story about how last week’s analysis has ruined Admin Aqua. I got a little spoiled finding sheet music for Miracles in December. It only happened once and I miss it already. I don’t want it to be a one time thing though!

But back to the task at hand…..

This song is a vast difference from last week’s (and yes as Admin Pisces already mentioned, we aren’t going in order this month. You’ll understand soon 😉). The tone, the mood, the music, the lyrics, everything is dissimilar.

**Warning: Sadly, this is an aural analysis only. It seems last week was the night of a blue moon (get it, a moon reference since we’re discussing EXO? No? Oooook…)

The song begins with what sounds like a Fender Rhodes piano, correction, I’m almost positive it’s a Rhodes or a Rhodes plugin. {What I wouldn’t give to have one of these babies}

Possibly another vintage piano brand but I really think it’s a Rhodes. Anyway, the percussion comes in. The combination of the piano motif and the drums gives The Star a late ‘90s/early ‘00s R&B feel. It’s a groove but it’s hype.

The vocals are what we have come to expect on songs like these. Now don’t get me wrong, they deliver but there is an emotional connection that is missing. No, I’m not saying this because I just analyzed Miracles in December last week and that was an emotionally charged song. With The Star it just feels like they sang what was placed in front of them.

Of course there is a difference between this 2013 delivery and the version Admin Pisces and I heard at EXO’LuXion in New York. What was the difference? Growth and choreography. There are things they’ve learned over the years that they did not know back then when this album was first recorded. See for yourself.
