This is another one that gets me to move. But I promise that this time I will stay focused.
Unlike with Two Moons, sorry, not sorry…..
**Warning: The following discussion is based solely on an aural analysis. Those of you not new to the blog already know how much I would love to analyze the score but…..**le sigh**
From the introduction, we are met with computer generated mechanical sounds signalling the arrival of the cold lady that we are to meet later in the lyrics. Everything throughout the song is rhythmically symmetrical further solidifying the unnatural calculatedness (yes, I know that’s not a real word) of Ms. Machine. It was a smart choice to have all the instrumentation to be electronic, further distancing the object of his desire from anything real, live or acoustic instruments.
Vocally, in both versions, the guys maintain the same intensity throughout. This is possibly to mirror how the lovely Androidess is constant. While they do express frustration at not being able to figure her out stylistically in their singing. And guys guess what else? They used Auto-tune. So no, Lotto is not the first time. They create disjointed phrasing by adding slight pauses between syllables while singing to imitate mechanisms. As I mentioned before, everything is rhythmically symmetrical.
Aww, it looks like we have come to the end of the MAMA Album. But all things must end so that something else can begin. That being said, look forward to XOXO/Growl Repackage next Tunesday.
